Dearly Beloved we gather here today to create this thing called fashion.
Written & photography by Robert Silver
Saturday, June 20, 2016 - This past weekend we spent the entire day in the studio shooting for one of our most powerful, collaborative fashion editorials to date. "Dearly Beloved" is a creative partnership that pays homage to Prince and his fashionable influence on multiple generations. Whether you loved his music, sex appeal, sense of style, or all of the above, you can't deny his everlasting impact.
Phillip Gums, the President of JE Model Management in San Francisco joined us and donated the talent of six of his models. Stars The Agency offered us one of their new faces. Ok great, we've got the studio, photographer, stylists, wardrobe, and models. What would an editorial be without beautiful hair & makeup? At the eleventh hour, Anjela Ivanova at San Francisco Institute of Esthetics & Cosmetology – A Paul Mitchell Partner School (SFIEC) hopped on board and Geremy Lowe, a lead instructor at SFIEC, stepped in to fill those shoes with his skilled and enthusiastic hair and makeup team. Ava Byrd of Byrdsong Productions graciously donated her services and provided excellent production support.
A special shout-out to my photography assistant and Digitech Joseph Hansen. Joseph is a high school student at Oakland School of the Arts. His tireless dedication and can-do spirit not only met industry standards but exceeded my expectations in every way.
At the end of the day, the Dearly Beloved project would have made Prince proud and did what he has done for decades; inspire, mentor and unite emerging talent. See the stunning result in the future Business of Fall Fashion issue, available by the end of August 2016.
